Best luaus on Oʻahu

We read each luau's own website and booking calendar on September 13, 2026 and compared the things that change the decision: where it is, which nights it runs, what the cheapest dinner ticket costs and includes, and how you get there from Waikīkī. Also running in 2026 but not compared here: Kaula Lūʻau at Ocean's Edge at Ko Olina, Nā Lei Aloha at Hyatt Regency Waikīkī, Waikīkī Starlight Luau at Hilton Hawaiian Village, and Queens Waikīkī Luau at International Market Place. Paradise Cove at Ko Olina held its last show on December 31, 2025.

Which one fits your evening

• Staying in Waikīkī, no car — ʻAhaʻaina, A Royal Hawaiian Lūʻau is on The Royal Hawaiian's Ocean Lawn Mondays and Thursdays only; Pāʻina Waikīkī is on the Waikīkī Beach Marriott's rooftop five nights a week. Ka Moana Luau is downtown at Aloha Tower, and its shuttle is $30 round trip.
• Lowest ticket price — Germaine's Luau ($128, tax included), Ka Moana Luau ($129 plus a booking fee) and Aloha Kai Lūʻau ($134.99 online, which also gets you into Sea Life Park for a day). Add transport if you don't drive: both Germaine's and Aloha Kai sell a bus seat from Waikīkī.
• A full day, and no alcohol — the Polynesian Cultural Center's Aliʻi Lūʻau Package adds a guided tour of six island villages to the lūʻau and the evening HĀ show. Alcohol is not served anywhere on its grounds.
• Pairing it with the North Shore — Toa Luau's ticket includes admission to Waimea Valley, and its evening show runs on weekdays only. It offers no transport, so plan on driving.
• West Oʻahu — Chief's Luau is produced by Chief Sielu, whom the luau bills as the original World Fire-Knife Dance Champion; Mauka Warriors Luau starts its show at dark. Both are in Kapolei, and both sell a coach seat from Waikīkī.

What happens at a luau

• Check-in — dinner seating opens between 4:30 and 5:30 PM at every luau in the table, and most evenings end between 7:45 and 8:30 PM. The Polynesian Cultural Center's lūʻau ends earlier and is followed by its separate evening show.
• Lei and activities — most greet you with a lei (a shell lei on the cheapest tickets at several of them) and run pre-show cultural activities such as lei making, hula lessons or poi pounding, so arriving at check-in is worth it.
• The imu — uncovering pork from an underground oven is on the published schedule at the Polynesian Cultural Center and Aloha Kai. Don't assume it elsewhere.
• Drinks — expect drink tickets, not an open bar. The cheapest adult ticket includes one drink at most of these luaus, ʻAhaʻaina, A Royal Hawaiian Lūʻau gives 3 drink tickets, and the Polynesian Cultural Center serves none.

Getting there

• Waikīkī — ʻAhaʻaina, A Royal Hawaiian Lūʻau and Pāʻina Waikīkī, both in Waikīkī itself.
• Downtown Honolulu — Ka Moana Luau, at Aloha Tower Marketplace. The operator puts it about 15 minutes from Waikīkī by car; the shuttle is $30 per person, round trip.
• West Oʻahu (Kapolei) — Chief's Luau, Germaine's Luau and Mauka Warriors Luau. Each sells round-trip transport from Waikīkī: $34, $35 and $30 per person respectively.
• North Shore — Toa Luau, in Waimea Valley. Waimea Valley puts the drive from Waikīkī at 1 to 1.5 hours, and the luau offers no shuttle.
• Lāʻie — the Polynesian Cultural Center, which says to allow at least 60 to 75 minutes of straight driving. It sells a $28 motor coach add-on from Waikīkī.
• Makapuʻu — Aloha Kai Lūʻau, at Sea Life Park in Waimānalo. Its round-trip bus from Waikīkī is $35.99 plus tax.

Before you book

• Check the night first — ʻAhaʻaina, A Royal Hawaiian Lūʻau runs Mondays and Thursdays only, Toa's evening show is weekdays only, the Polynesian Cultural Center is closed on Sundays, and Chief's Luau doesn't run on Tuesdays.
• Price the whole evening — the ticket, plus transport if you need it, parking if you drive (Chief's Luau charges $13), and any online booking fee.
• Book the popular nights early — The Royal Hawaiian and the Polynesian Cultural Center both say their luaus often sell out, and Ka Moana Luau's calendar showed sold-out dates within two weeks when we checked.
